It's apple picking season – stay warm

Apple picking season

Fall is finally upon us. The leaves are beginning to turn and there is a crispness in the air. While pumpkin patch picking is always on our list of October to-do’s, we also love taking our little ones out to an apple orchard. Apple picking is a fun, family-friendly activity to kick-off your fall.

We love apple picking and recommend it to all of our friends because typically there are enough activities to keep both the adults and kids entertained. From drinking warm cider to taking a hayride around the orchard, there is something for everyone.

Before heading out, throw a pair of Tubes on your kiddos to ensure they stay warm and cozy throughout the day’s adventures. Often an apple orchard or festival means an all-day outing, and Tubes – Ella's Wool's knit merino wool leggings – are perfect for just that. Your kids can start the afternoon wearing just the leggings and as the evening chill begins to fill the air, layer them up! They’re meant for it.

Once all the kiddos are ready to hit the hay, head home with the day’s pickings. Fresh, hand-picked apples are another reason we love taking the family out to the apple orchard. Utilize your pickings to create more family fun at home! Here are a few ideas that you can enjoy with your kids at home:

Gather your kiddos into the kitchen and bake apple pies. Teach them a few tricks in the kitchen or have a flour fight around the island. Either way, you’re sure to have fun! Apple pies also freeze well if you want to save one or two for later in the year.

Halloween is just around the corner, too. If you’re hosting a party or need a treat for the kids to take to school, candy some of the apples you picked. Our favorite is dipping them in caramel followed by nut or chocolate sprinkles.

Nothing beats homemade apple cider! It’s a bit of a process, but oh, so worth it! Use the leftover apples for bobbing at a fall neighborhood block party!

The options are endless for what you can make with the apples you pick! But, one thing is certain, the day at the orchard and following will be unforgettable.
